EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD                         Oct 2005

(EHIC)

This now replaces the E111 forms and will be essential from January 2006.

It entitles you to free or reduced cost healthcare when treatment becomes necessary during a temporary visit to other EU countries or Switzerland.   It is only valid for treatment offered under the state schemes operating in these countries and gives you access under the same terms as people living in the country.

The EHIC is NOT a substitute for travel insurance ; it may not cover all health costs and never covers repatriation.

Further information can be found in the booklet “ Health Advice for Travellers” available from Post Offices and on line at www.dh.gov.uk/travellers.

To apply send in the form found on the website (above) or at main Post Offices.
