The 3rd Annual Bromsgrove School Challenge
25th June 2000
Hereford & Worcester County Fencing Union Schools Competition

Thank you for attending this year's competition. As you know this was the third time this competition has been held, and I hope you will agree that it has been a success.
We held 9 separate events at two weapons with 91 entries from 25 Schools. 421 fights were fought and 31 medals were awarded for 14 different categories. This year we had six trophies. New trophies included the Doug Taylor cup for U19 boys foil, the Graham Orme cup for U16 boys foil & the Matt Taylor cup for U14 boys foil.
The number of entries was slightly down (9%) on last year but the number of fights was up (17%). The standard of fencing was also higher with 5 members of the Great Britain Under 17 squad and one England Under 16 fencer taking part.

Thanks
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who acted as a taxi service for the young competitors, they are grateful even if they never get round to saying 'thank you'.
I would like to thank all those who lent equipment to allow others to fence. Without your generosity junior events would be tiny by comparison.
I would like to extend my very special thanks to those who gave freely of their time to referee. Lynne Melia, Mavis Thornton, Alan Perry, Peter Northam, John Ankrett, Peter Rome, Ed Coburn, and John Hutton. Without you this event would have been a very different affair.
I must also thank Mr John Thomas Director of Sports at Bromsgrove School, without him there would be no fencing at Bromsgrove and consequently no competition.
Finally I would like to thank you the competitors for taking part and making it such a fun day. See you all again next year.
If you have any queries about any aspect of the competition, if you would like to give any feedback about the way the event was run, or if you have any suggestions about next years event please contact the organiser Nick Chapman at 80 Salford Close Woodrow South Redditch Worcs B98 7UN.
